CPSC, American Household Inc., (Formerly Sunbeam Corp.) Announce Recall of Star ME-1 Dry Fire Sprinklers, Administrative Lawsuit Settlement
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and American Household Inc. (AHI), formerly known as Sunbeam Corporation, of Boca Raton, Fla., today announced the nationwide recall of about 60,000 Star ME-1 dry fire sprinklers. Chemetron Corporation, an inactive subsidiary of AHI, manufactured these sprinklers from 1977 through 1982. This recall announcement follows the resolution of an administrative proceeding filed by CPSC on October 9, 2001, in which CPSC alleged these sprinklers are defective and are likely to fail to operate in a fire, thereby exposing consumers to the risk of death or serious injury.

CPSC, Country Home Products, Inc. Announce Recall to Repair Cordless Electric Lawnmowers
Country Home Products Inc., of Vergennes, Vt. is recalling about 2,800 Cordless Electric Lawnmowers. Because these lawnmowers lack a safety guard, a consumer's foot could go under the plastic housing and be struck by the blade. These lawnmowers do not comply with the mandatory federal safety standard for lawnmowers under the ConsumerProduct Safety Act.

DesignPac Inc. of Northlake, Ill. is recalling about 37,200 oil lamps. The glass wick holder can shatter when lit, posing a fire hazard.

CPSC, WestPoint Stevens Inc. Announce Recall of Electric Blankets
WestPoint Stevens Inc., of West Point, Ga. is recalling about 11,000 electric blankets. When the blanket is folded, the heating element can overheat, causing the heating element and blanket to melt. This poses the risk of thermal burns to consumers.

Panasonic Consumer Electronics, of Secaucus, N.J. is recalling about 64,000 cordless power tool battery packs. The battery packs can detach from the power tool unexpectedly and strike the operator or bystander, resulting in injuries.

CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Little People® Animal Sounds Farms
Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 67,000 Little People® Animal Sounds Farms manufactured from June 17, 2002 through July 31, 2002. Two small metal screws that hold the toy "stall doors" in place can come off, posing an aspiration or choking hazard to young children.

CPSC, Battat Incorporated Announce Recall of Drumsticks Sold with Toy Drum Sets
Battat Incorporated, of Plattsburgh, NY, is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 sets of toy drumsticks sold with the Parents Bee Bop Band drum sets. The end piece of the drumstick handle can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, the screw at the end of the drumstick can loosen and detach, posing a choking hazard.

Dynacraft Industries Inc., of San Rafael, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 52,900 BMX bicycles. The stems on these bicycles can loosen during use, causing riders to lose control and fall.

CPSC, Thomson Announce Recall of Home Entertainment Amplifiers
Thomson Inc., of Indianapolis, Ind., is voluntarily recalling about 50,000 home entertainment amplifiers. The amplifier can overheat due to a lack of ventilation, which can cause melting of the plastic front cover and pose a shock hazard to consumers.

CPSC, Polaris Industries Inc. Announce Recall of Polaris Xpedition 325, Trail Boss 325, and Magnum 325 ATVs
Polaris Industries Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., is recalling about 56,000 2000 and 2001 Polaris Xpedition 325, Trail Boss 325, and Magnum 325 all terrain vehicles ("ATVs"). These products are 4-wheeled vehicles intended for use in off-road areas. Polaris dealers nationwide sold these vehicles from January 1999 through August 2000 for approximately $6,000.

CPSC, BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. Announce Recall of Red Devil Gas Grills
BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc., of Natick, Mass., is recalling about 2,800 Red Devil gas grills sold at BJ's Wholesale Club stores. These red metal gas grills have a tripod stand. They have a logo on the label of the lid and grill base showing a devil cooking at a grill with the writing, "Red Devil." The lid also reads "The Portable Outdoor Kitchen." Components sold with the grill include a heat plate, an oversized skillet with handles, a table-safe serving trivet, and carrying totes. BJ's Wholesale Club Stores sold these grills from about May 2000 through June 2002 for $70.

CPSC, Playskool Announce Recall of Magic Start Crawl 'n Stand Toys Sold Only at Wal-Mart
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Playskool, of Pawtucket, R.I., is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 Magic Start Crawl 'n Stand toys. The toy, which is designed to encourage crawling babies to pull themselves up and stand, can tip over during use and strike falling babies in the head, face or neck, resulting in injuries.

CPSC, Kindermusik International Announce Recall of "Fiddlesticks" Instruments
Kindermusik International, of Browns Summit, N.C., is recalling 32,000 Fiddlestick instruments. Fiddlesticks are wooden rhythm instruments designed for use in the Kindermusik classroom and at home. The recalled instrument is 7" long, 1" in diameter, and is made of wood. It is hollowed out in the middle. Steel balls are inserted into the middle of the instrument to create a shaker sound and the ends are capped with wooden plugs. They are primarily sold as part of a music instructional kit. Kindermusik educators sold the music kits, including the Fiddlesticks, in the United States and Canada from December 2002 through January 2003.

CPSC, Black Diamond Equipment Announce Recall of Bionic Crampons
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Black Diamond Equipment, of Salt Lake City, Utah is voluntarily recalling about 150 pairs of Bionic Crampons (used for ice climbing). The Front rail of the crampon could be improperly heat-treated and toe points could bend resulting in malfunction of the crampon.

CPSC, TNT Fireworks Announce Recall of Party Poppers Sold at Wal-Mart
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Promotional Events Inc., doing business as TNT, of Florence, Ala., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Party Poppers. The Party Popper is a rocket-shaped device that shoots into the air when the string is pulled. The cone-shaped top can pop off rapidly, and can hit and injure both children and adults.

CPSC, Maytag Corporation Announce Recall of Kenmore Elite-Brand TRIO Model Refrigerators
Maytag Corp. of Newton, Iowa, is recalling about 6,000 Kenmore Elite-brand TRIO model refrigerators for testing and replacement. The refrigerators have the side-by-side upper doors and a freezer drawer at the bottom of the refrigerator. The recalled refrigerator model numbers and serial numbers are listed below. Sears stores nationwide sold the recalled refrigerators from Dec. 8, 2002 through Jan. 10, 2003 for between $1,800 and $2,000.

CPSC, Learning Curve Int'l Inc. Announce Recall of Lamaze Activity Toys
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Racing Champions Ertl/Learning Curve Int'l., Inc. (RCE/LCI), of Chicago, IL is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,800 children's activity toys. There are two types of activity toys involved in this recall. One toy is a flower shaped toy intended to attach to a stroller, with a green painted metal wire on which plastic beads slide along. The item is the Lamaze Flower Stroller Wrap (SKU #97222). The other toy is a floor-based toy with a foam stuffed base, a blue painted metal wire on which plastic beads and stuffed animal heads slide along. This item is the Lamaze Soft Bead Buddies (SKU #97325). Each item has a sewn-in label with the Lamaze logo on the front. These toys were sold in March 2003 through specialty and toy stores nationwide for around $19.99.
