February 7, 2002- Applica Consumer Products Recall of Black & Decker® Brand VersaToast™ Toasters
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Applica Consumer Products Inc., of Miami Lakes, Fla., is voluntarily recalling about 2.1 million VersaToast™ wide-slot toasters. Applica made and sold these toasters under the Black & Decker® brand. The heating element in these toasters can continue to operate after use, posing a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission (CPSC) and The Black & Decker Corp. announcedtoday the resolution of CPSC's administrative Complaintagainst Black & Decker and an improved nationwide recall ofthe Spacemaker Optima Model T1000 Type 1 HorizontalToasters. In its Complaint, CPSC alleged that Black &Decker's unilateral recall announcement of October 27, 1997,did not go far enough in notifying the public of the recallor the potential fire hazard associated with the toasters,and the consumer remedy was not adequate. In its Answer,Black & Decker denied the allegations contained in theadministrative Complaint. After the Complaint and Answerwere filed, CPSC and Black & Decker began workingcooperatively to modify and improve Black & Decker'soriginal recall program.
February 12, 1998- Ovens Recalled by Appliance Corp. of America
In cooperation with the U.S. ConsumerProduct Safety Commission (CPSC), Appliance Corp. of America(ACA) of Great Neck, N.Y., is implementing a voluntarycorrective action program on more than 100,000 toaster andconvection ovens sold under the WELBILT brand name toreplace their power cords. If the power cords touch the backof the oven, they could melt and expose wires, presenting aserious shock hazard to consumers.
